The greatest sport in the world is back.
The MMHA (Mattawa Minor Hockey Association) has been busy with clubs that will compete in the NDHL (Nipissing District Hockey League) for the 2019-20 season.
And after a two-year hiatus, the Midget club is back in business. Along with the Midget crew, there will be Tyke, Novice, Atom, Pee Wee and Bantam teams vying for championships in their respective divisions.
The Atom Rockets have played four matches already and are off to slow start, losing two games to the Temiscaming Royals 7-2 and 11-1 at the Mike Rodden Arena, and losing twice on the road, 7-1 to East Nipissing and 5-0 to the North Bay Atom B girls club.
Players on the club include Reed Backer, Steven Lefebvre, Blake Belanger, Tara Pellerin, Peyton Roberts, Kenzy Huard, Dawson Lefebvre, Lauren Janveaux, Owen Marcotte, Chase Rodgers, Rain Meilleur, and Amaya Gariepy-Thompson.
Coaching staff includes Don Valade (head coach), Annie Gariepy-Thompson (assistant coach/trainer), and Shannon Lefebvre (manager).
Goal scorers for the Rockets have been Belanger and D. Lefebvre.
On October 19, the Novice Rockets went on a scoring spree and blasted the opposition 11-6, playing in the half ice mode. Colton Sarrazin scored seven times, while Andy Neault, Bryson Carrier, River Walters and Dominik Pellerin all fired single tallies. According to head coach, Dexture Sarrazin, Neault’s goal was the first of his minor hockey career.
Also, coach Sarrazin was pleased with the new players quickly learning how to change lines, and pointed out that Owen Smith has changed his position to goaltender.
Other players on the team include Kaydence Indenbosch, Chad Michaud, Aubre Wilson, Jude Neault, Barrett Chicquen, and Kowen Indenbosch.
Besides Mr. Sarrazin, the coaching staff includes Marion Pellerin as manager.
